Professional Development in Secondary Schools
Both school leaders and class-teachers in secondary schools agree on the importance of effective CPD for teaching staff.
Effective professional development for teachers is a core part of securing effective teaching.
DfE’s Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development
Secondary Schools are not investing enough into CPD
‘In the UK the quality and nature of continuing training available is very uneven’.
OECD
Personalised, Practical, Pedagogy
At JMC we firmly believe CPD should be relevant and engaging, that’s why so many schools use our services.
On average schools in England spend just 0.5% of their budgets on CPD, according to the Teacher Development Trust. In contrast, in the world’s best school systems like Ontario, Canada, over 10% of school budgets and teacher time is spent on CPD. Whilst students spend 1100 hours a year learning, teachers in England are expected to spend only up to 30 hours a year, less than an hour a week!
Effective CPD improves Teacher Retention
Teachers in Secondary Schools are firmly invested in honing and developing their skills. According to an LKMco and Pearson survey, the prospect of making a difference in pupils’ lives motivates 92% of teachers to stay in teaching, so any further opportunities to increase their impact in the classroom are likely to be received with enthusiasm.
We use JMC regularly as they provide a wide range of up to date training courses and we know that the quality of training will be high
